FPSO Reaches Offshore Site: Senegal and Mauritania Gas Project Advances

The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development, spearheaded by bp, has achieved another significant milestone. The project’s Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel has arrived at its final offshore location, marking a major step forward for gas production in Senegal and Mauritania.

This colossal vessel, built in China, undertook a remarkable journey of over 12,000 nautical miles before reaching its destination. Currently being moored, it’s poised to become the heart of the GTA operation.

The project targets deepwater gas reservoirs via a subsea system. Upon completion, it’s expected to yield a significant 2.3 million tons of LNG annually, catering to both domestic needs and export markets. The FPSO itself is a powerhouse, designed to process a staggering 500 million standard cubic feet of gas each day.

“This momentous arrival,” said Dave Campbell, bp’s Senior Vice President for Mauritania and Senegal, “is a testament to the incredible teamwork, skill, and perseverance of everyone involved. The FPSO has essentially traveled halfway around the world, and its safe installation marks a turning point. Our focus now remains steadfast – ensuring the project’s safe completion and achieving first gas production.”
