The platform is owned by the international drilling contractor Northern Ocean and operated by the Namibian engineering services company, Odfjell Drilling.
According to Energy Capital Power, in a first phase, the investment could generate an additional revenue for Northern Ocean ranging between 27 and 38 million dollars.
The CS60 semi-submersible platform is a sixth-generation platform for harsh environments, capable of operating in water depths of up to 10,000 feet, and has been working under TotalEnergies through a multinational drilling contract since December 2022.
In 2023, the platform was used to evaluate the light oil discovery in Venus, Namibia, while exploratory drilling in Block 2913 B in the Orange Basin resulted in the discovery of the Tamboti-1X exploration well, which is described as a billion-barrel target.
