US. President Joe Biden will travel to Luanda, Angola in December to discuss collaboration on economic partnerships, security and health.
Recognizing Angola’s role as a strategic partner to the U.S., President Biden’s visit aims to bolster U.S. companies’ global competitiveness while celebrating the G-7’s Partnerships for Global Infrastructure and Investment initiative, which sponsored the construction of an 800k rail line connecting Angola to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.
The visit is also poised to strengthen energy security and climate action in Angola, with the U.S. having supported the country with roughly $900 million to develop over 500 MW of
solar power.
President Biden is also expected to discuss strengthening democracy and civic engagement in Angola, with aims to enhance peace and security in the region. Between 2020 and 2023, Angola received $18 million in U.S. military aid, with the two countries expanding collaboration in maritime security, space and cyber defense.
