AOG 2025 Conference and Exhibition Translation

This year’s edition of the AOG Conference and Exhibition, held in Luanda on September 3rd and 4th, stood out for a series of strategic developments for the sector. Among investment commitments worth billions of dollars, project launches, scholarships, block updates, and agreement signings, AOG 2025 reaffirmed its position as the main meeting platform for Angola’s oil and energy industry.

Celebrating 50 Years of Independence

AOG 2025 coincided with the celebrations of Angola’s 50 years of Independence, offering an opportunity to reflect on lessons from the past and define new paths toward a secure energy future. President João Lourenço opened the event, sharing his vision for the next era of development based on hydrocarbons.

Pre-Conference

The AOG 2025 pre-conference included technical presentations and workshops, with speakers sharing knowledge about future technologies. ExxonMobil presented innovative technology using drones; ANPG highlighted incremental production opportunities; Corcel announced plans to advance with a 2D seismic survey; and IRDP outlined the refining strategy for the country.

Billions of Dollars in Investments Announced

Multinational companies bp, Eni, and TotalEnergies announced investments worth billions of dollars in Angola. Azule Energy – a joint venture between Eni and bp – revealed plans to invest $5 billion over the coming years, while TotalEnergies presented a $3 billion investment through the Dalia Life Extension project.

Seven Contracts Signed

During AOG 2025, seven strategic agreements were signed, consolidating the event as the main negotiation platform for the sector. Among them, notable agreements for Blocks 6/24, 33/24, 3/24, 15, and 31; the signing of a cooperation agreement between Angola and Ivory Coast; and the entry of Copia Group of Companies into the Angola Geophysics Association. Among the most relevant milestones, Shell marked its return to Angola after 20 years, while Afentra obtained its first operator license in the country.

$70 Billion Pipeline

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas confirmed that Angola will launch the next licensing round by the end of 2025, with blocks also available through direct negotiation. ANPG also revealed an investment pipeline worth $70 billion for the next five years, covering both onshore and offshore opportunities.

First Shipment from Agogo Project

The first shipment from the Agogo Integrated West Hub project, operated by Azule Energy in Block 15/06 (Lower Congo Basin), was officially dispatched during AOG 2025. President João Lourenço authorized the start of exports at the event’s opening ceremony, following the start of production in August 2025.

Angola Awards Four Scholarships

Four students received scholarships to attend the National Petroleum Institute (INP) in Sumbe, awarded under the Albina Faria de Assis Pereira Africano Scholarship for Girls initiative, which aims to support young women in completing their studies in Angola’s petroleum sector.

Innovation and Technology in the Spotlight

AOG 2025 featured for the first time the thematic area “Deals and Showcases,” which included innovation presentations conducted by young Angolans and sessions dedicated to the procurement processes of the country’s main operators.

Project Updates

During the conference, various project updates were shared: ExxonMobil announced plans to drill in Block 15; Azule Energy confirmed drilling in Blocks 15/06 and 47; TotalEnergies committed to conducting annual exploration drilling; and Sonangol revealed plans for Block 24. Alfort Petroleum is preparing the proposal for Block KON 8, and ReconAfrica announced the start of surface sampling work in the Damara Belt, in onshore Angola. ANPG, in turn, revealed that the first gas from Block 1/14 should enter production by the end of 2025.

AOG Award Winners Announced

The winners of the AOG Awards were announced at the gala dinner. Categories included Innovator of the Year, Explorer of the Year, Downstream Company of the Year, National Company of the Year, Career Award, among others. Among those distinguished were Azule Energy, Sonangol, and the Cabinda Refinery – inaugurated on September 1st – among various other sector protagonists.
