The Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference, which will take place on September 3 and 4 in Luanda, will host a masterclass on “Understanding IOC Procurement”: Best Practices for Service Companies. Aimed at service providers and local companies, the session offers an in-depth look at how major operators structure their procurement strategies, what they prioritize in supplier selection, and how local Angolan providers can optimize their approach to meet industry expectations.
The procurement masterclass will be led by some of the country’s largest oil and gas operators. Speakers include Adão Costa, Procurement Director at ExxonMobil Angola, and Maurizio Lapichino, Procurement Director at international energy company Azule Energy. With strong portfolios of oil and gas production assets, both companies have an established presence in Angola. The AOG 2025 masterclass will offer strategic insights into how local suppliers can navigate the procurement processes of these companies, as both ExxonMobil and Azule Energy are rapidly expanding their investments in Angola.
AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Held with full support from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels; the Petroleum Products Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform for signing agreements and advancing Angola’s oil and gas industry. As one of the country’s largest oil and gas producers, Azule Energy has been accelerating exploration and production projects in recent months. On the exploration front, the company strives to unlock new resources in Angola through bold drilling campaigns in established basins. Azule Energy’s latest gas discovery – made at the Gajajeira-01 well in Block 1/14 last July – is expected to trigger a new era of non-associated gas development in Angola. Regarding production, the company achieved several milestones in 2025. These include the start of operations at the FPSO Agogo – part of the broader Agogo Integrated West Hub Development. Looking ahead, the company is preparing to begin operations at the Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields at the end of 2025 – the country’s first non-associated gas project. These projects demonstrate Azule Energy’s extensive market presence.
ExxonMobil, in turn, is leading frontier exploration efforts in the Namibe basin. As a largely underexplored basin, Namibe offers significant opportunities for play-opening discoveries. On the production side, the company continues to maximize production at production assets while bringing new projects online with the country’s broader production objectives. In 2025, ExxonMobil – together with its Block 17 partners – signed a production sharing contract extension for Block 17. The companies also initiated operations at the CLOV Phase 3 Development in the block, bringing 30,000 barrels per day to market. As ExxonMobil expands its presence in Angola, the company’s demand for innovative procurement services is also expected to increase.
